Time Management – 5 tips to Improve productivity

In today’s article we will discuss productivity and provide 5 tips that will make you more productive at work and in your lives. One of the key things to remember about productivity is that you can be extremely busy without being productive. As readers of Goals-4-Life, we want you to be as productive as you can in your day and be able to manage your time in an effective and efficient way. The following tips will help you do that.

Communication: Communication is key and can help you save heaps of time. Always make sure that you understand what is required, or that the other person understands what you are requiring. Use paraphrasing to make sure you are on the same wavelength as other people. This not only saves time in rework, it also makes sure that you don’t go off on the wrong tangent.
Planning: Here at Goals-4-Life we love the saying “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. So true, if you spend even just a few minutes planning your day, your task, or a phone call, you will be on top of your game, won’t need to do further research to get more information, and will sound more knowledgeable as well.
Prioritise: In order to be productive you have to work out what tasks are important, and do these first. With out prioritisation we can jump from one unimportant task to another. On your daily to do list work out what the most important things to do are, and do them first.
Procrastination: We often procrastinate when we don’t know what tasks to do first. A clear plan will help over come procrastination. In addition, work out what tasks you are procrastinating on, and then thing of reasons why (eg a task is to big). Then look at ways you can change the task to eliminate the procrastination.
Delegate: Appropriate delegation is your friend. Is the task you are doing within your core business? If not consider delegating it to a suitable person.

Healthy: The five worst foods for you

You know that some foods are bad for you

Doughnuts: Apart from heaps of sugar, these babies have trans fatty acids.
Soda: 10 teaspoons of sugar and cancer causing properties – need we say more.
French fries: These thin chips contain heaps of trans fatty acid and through the frying process actually have cancer causing properties.
Chips: Packet chips are even worse than French Fries, they contain up to 40 percent fat.
Fried sea food other than fish: While fish is good for you, often other seafood isn’t especially when fried. Any nutritional value has been fried out of it, and whats more, most of the shelled seafood that is fried is lower quality and contains mercury. Stick to fish!!!

There you have it, some foods to avoid!!!

Parenting: Some toddler techniques

When your child enters the toddler years, you can start experience a range of emotions, some of them fantastic, some of them, well not so fantastic. Today, we though we would explore some specific toddler habits and what you can do.

The run away game: Your call your child because you won’t to show them something, or you want them to come to dinner. They look at you give you a coy smile and take off full bolt in the other direction!!! Firstly, this is a necessary thing for your child and helps develop separation. At home it is normally fine, outside eg in a shopping centre or near a road, it can be dangerous. The first thing you can do is to try and tell your toddler when it is ok to run from you and when it isn’t. However, at the age of 1 or 2 it is not likely that they will remember. While you can reinforce this over time, it is necessary for you to take the safety steps and to hold them, when it isn’t appropriate that they run away.
I can do it myself: This is an absolute favourite. Toddlers are convinced that they can do everything themselves (sometimes I wish I felt that that way!!!). While this can be frustrating, it is necessary for the child’s development. But we can help. Cook food that is easy for them to put on forks or spoons. Buy clothes that are easy to put on (eg the shirt doesn’t have 20 buttons that need doing up). Try and enjoy this time!!! It is much better than having someone who thinks they can’t do anything.
Temper Tantrums: The terrible twos!!! Most children are likely to have these when they are frustrated. Again it relates back to the “I can do it myself” mindset, and when they can’t do things they, to put it bluntly “crack it”. Again we can help, give some independence, and provide toys games or food that is going to be challenging but not to challenging. However, always set limits. Let the child know that a temper tantrum is not going to help them get their own way, and that you are the boss. Research has shown that toddlers who sleep at the same time, and eat at the same time are less likely to have tantrums than those who schedules keep changing.

When your editor left for work on Friday morning he noticed that someone had parked in front of his rubbish bin, and that it had not been emptied. Knowing how much rubbish we have with three kids, we had to go on a stealth mission to put rubbish in other bins in the neighbourhood next to us which were out for collection.

On the way to my parents place for dinner, my wife and my three kids help load up the car and we went to find some empty bins.

We pulled up outside some units where there were some half emptied bins. As I started putting rubbish in, a car came out of the driveway and stopped to see what I was doing. The driver just looked and stared at me, obviously annoyed that I was using his bin.

All I could do was smile, wave and jump back in the car.

‘Daddy…where did all the rubbish go’ Kirsten, my four year old asked?
‘its just gone’ was my rely.

Feeling bad, we have decided we will leave a hamper at this person’s door this Christmas to make up for it!!!

Cheers
