Parenting: Walk a mile in their shoes

One of the best parenting tips we can offer is: The walk a mile in their shoes game.

You have surely heard of walking a mile in someone elses shoes; yet have you put it into practice?

When dealing with your child - and they are of reasonable age eg a teenager - and you reach a stalemate on a topic. One of the best things you can do is to look at the situation from their point of view. Ask your child to do the same. Once you have ascertained each others view points, write them down on a piece of paper. After a quick review, the most practical way to solve the problem may/should be on the paper.

Remember though, as a parent, it is your responsibility to have final say. If you topic you can't agree upon could result in problems/accident etc for your child, it is still best to stick to your guns. At the very least, your child should have an understanding of where you are coming from.

Romance

Romance: How to keep it in your relationship

If you are a long time suffer of our blog, or our daily ezine at goals-4-life.com, you will know that our beat is goal setting, health and parenting. One thing that is essential to at least two of these aspects (health and parenting) is a solid, genuine relationship, where you feel you have the support of your partner, can tell them anything, and are romantic with each other.

Today, we would like to explore romance, and how important it is for you and your relationship.

romance

love notes

Romance is easy in the first stages of a relationship. You can buy your partner flowers, you can take them out to a romantic meal, you can write them a sweet letter. Albeit, as time goes on, couples tend to say that they feel the romance lessen; kids come in the picture; they suddenly feel that their romance is taking a second step.

This is quite sad. Romance is an integral part of any relationship, and with some simple steps, and a small amount of effort it is easy to rekindle. So lets explore romance and what you can do to get it back in your relationship.

Romantic gestures trigger the memories of falling in love (you remember those euphoria type feelings? These are the ones we are talking about!!!)
Romance is the show and tell of true love. While women generally need romance more than men (we still need it to!!!), your partner going to an effort to be romantic to you, lets you know that they love you and care for you.
Behaviour can affect feelings. The beauty of romance is that you can change negative feels to positive feels in you and your partner, just by been a little romantic.
At the end of the day romance is the expression of love through words, gestures, and actions. It is the thoughts behind these words, gestures and actions that make them romantic. The great thing is that they don't have to be big things. A simple picnic, a night out at the movies, a card etc is all you need to start those romantic feelings again.

So our advice for today: If you are lucky enough to have a partner be romantic with them. Think of all the romantic things you can do together. It will be a major boast for you and your relationship!!!

Vista Printing

One of the best presents that I have received is personal stationary that is designed by VistaPrint.

VistaPrint, as well as undertaking printing, develop and print stationary to suit anyones need. Business cards, letter heads, you name it, they do it.

VistaPrint makes a unique gift, and above all it is a useful gift that people can use. Far to often at Christmas time we see people give gifts that are useless and are just going to be thrown out. With VistaPrint, you can provide a gift that people will use, and will actually help them to make money in the future.

Don't want to give it as a gift!!! Why not make up some stationary for youself? Do yourself a favour and go and check out the website.

New Years with young kids

In today's article, we thought we would look a New Year's Eve celebrations and how you can still have fun with young kids.

If you think back to before you had kids, you probsbly remember wild parties, drinking and been up all night (well with young kids the up all night hasn't changed!!!).

However you can still have fun on New Years with the kids. Below are a list of activities that you can undertake

Fireworks in the city (many cities have fireworks displayed early for the kids
Catching up with friends who have kids (you are all in the same boat)
Going to a park with friends
Having a BBQ that is equivalent to a kids part.
And last but not least, my personal favourite, hiring out a play centre. One of my mates did this with 20 or so other families. The parents and the kids had a blast!!!

Bed Bugs!!!

As regular travellers we have been exposed to bed bugs. Nothing is quite like it. You wake up in the middle of the night itching all over in pain from bites.

But the problem doesn't just stop when you leave the dodgy hotel. Bed bugs, can travel in your luggage and you can bring them back home with you...not a nice thought.

At the moment there is a world wide epademic of bed bugs, they are on the increase, and there don't seem to be any signs of them slowing down.

Please visit the attached link for details of what you can do.

Goal Setting New Years(2)

Goal Setting: Goal Setting at New Years

Leading up to New Years we tend to over indulge and justify it by saying we will set goals in the New Year.

To ensure you have the most success at your goal setting, you should really be starting now. Work out what your key goals for the year are. You should have about five or six key goals in key areas (eg wealth, health, relationships, spiritual and giving to the community).

Once you have defined your goals. Work out what it will take to achieve them. Have you set goals that are measurable, and that you can work out a path towards? Once you have down this, you now need to break down your goals into manageable chunks.

Work out what you will have to do each month to progress your goal. From here break it down even further into weeks and finally a daily to do list. The point of the task is to do the hard work early on, and then have simple lists for what you need to do each day, each week and each month,

Good luck with your goal setting.

Amazing gifts

Coming into Christmas, you want to make sure you get a gift that really stands out. Not your run of the mill bottle of wine, or chocolates. If you want an unforgetable gift, check out our friends at www.freemanX.com.au

Editor's views 18-12-07

We had some excitement last night. Your editor was sitting down on the couch watching television with his wife at about 10:30pm last night when he heard one of his cats at the back door.

If you are a cat owner, you will know the meow that cats make when they have caught something…this was the meow that our cat was doing. Without thinking to much, we opened up the door.

To our amazement, our cat Keddi, had a snake in her mouth caring it by the centre. On closer inspection, it wasn’t just any snake it was a Tiger Snake.

For those dear readers who live outside Australia (which is the majority) we will explain a few things about Snakes in great land of Oz.

It is not a question of if a snake is poisonous, it is how poisonous is it. Our friend Tom Gleeson, in his TV documentary, A River Somewhere, summed it up perfectly:
• A Tiapan Snake is deadly it takes about 1 hour to kill you
• A Brown snake is deadly, it takes about 1 ½ hours to kill you
• A Tiger snake is not to bad, it takes about 3 hours to kill you
• A Copperhead snake is also not to bad, it takes about 4 hours to kill you
• A black snake takes about 6 hours to kill you (practically harmless)

So with a Tiger Snake, if you don’t get to a doctor in about 3 hours to get anti venom, your not going to be feeling to well. Out of all the snakes in Australia, the Tiger Snake is the most aggressive. While most other snakes will slide away if approached, the Tiger Snake will stay and fight, they are known to lunge at people, and chase people.

Our cat had managed to catch one. Our next job was to make sure that she hadn’t been bitten. We rang the 24 hour vet, who told us to look over her, and if she had been bitten to bring her in as well as the snake.

To us, the snake looked dead. As we soon found out this was not the case, as we tried to get the Snake into a container, we realised that she wasn’t as dead as we first thought!!! The Snake started moving. Luckily your editor had protective gear that included flip flops (we call them thongs here), a tee shirt and shorts!!! At last we managed to get the snake in the container.

We then had a delimma. Let the snake suffer (it has been hurt by the cat), or put it out of its misery. We thought about the microwave. We then thought about the freezer – neither option seemed humane.

We finally opted to call my father and one of his old friends, who came around and disposed of the snake with a few strikes of a shovel!!!

And the cat, we are glad to say that it somehow managed to not get bitten – it must have eight lives left!!!

Your editor had an early family Christmas function on Sunday evening. It involved family on his wife’s side. With a German atmosphere, there were plenty of meat and alcohol to go around as well as many rich deserts.

The Great Aunt who is over from German was there, and lost her dentures half way through the night, which resulted in 40 plus people looking for them, all trying not to laugh for fear of been hit by this lovely – yet fiery – old lady.

Other highlights included people comparing battle wounds from a Thailand Trip, and a Kris Kringle that went for about 1 ½ hours.

I will say one thing, my wife does have an interesting family.

As the Kris Kringle dragged on, and as everything stopped while the Great Aunt slowly opened up her present. One bold person said.

‘Come on, I haven’t got that long…’ he then looked at the Great Aunt and said ‘and you have even less time!!!’ We were just glad he didn’t say it in German!!!

Goal Setting: Getting used to achieving goals

Goal Setting: Getting used to achieving goals

One of the biggest problems people have with achieving goals, is not believing in themselves. When we start out with this attitude of failure, is it any surprise that most people fail to achieve their goals.

Today, we just want to provide one simple technique to help overcome this very common problem.

Start setting daily goals that you know you can achieve. You can start with a list of activities (eg pick up dry cleaning) that you can easily do during the day. Once you complete each activity cross it of the list.

If you do this for one month you will have taught yourself that you can easily achieve your goals. A simple technique, but one which has been proven to be successful.

Self Help: The most important thing you will ever need to do

Self Help: The single most important thing you will ever need to do.

Success and achieving what you want out of live, really only comes down to one thing: Taking action.

To achieve something all you need to do is to take action and start doing it. If you are persistent you will find a way. Most people experience small failures and give up.

Here at goals-4-life we don’t want you to be one of these people. Accept that on average seven out of every ten decisions we make will be wrong. Please don’t be discouraged, accept this and keep trying.

Use all the resources and mentors you have as well. This will give you the best chance of success.

Today our message is simple: Get of your hands and take action – it will be well worth your while in the end!!!

Self Help: Are you a weather proofer?

Self-Help: Are you a weather-proofer?

But what is a weather-proofer you may ask? A weather-proofer can serve a
good purpose. It is someone who can see detail, and look for what faults
there are in a house, so you know how to fix your house and make it
weather-proof. However, this is where the benefits stop.

Do you know some one who finds faults in everything and everyone. They
look and only see the negative and what needs to be fixed. These people
can be down right destructive to success and the success of those around
you.

To overcome weather-proofing, or to ensure that its effects are only
positive, first realise that it does have a role. A role that is very
specific in nature (eg testing medical equipment).

Secondly, recognise that most of the time, the smallest details really
don’t matter. If you know the objectives that you want to achieve, and
have a rough idea of how to proceed, then keep going. The worst thing you
can do is stop because of some small problems you or someone else has
identified.

Take weather-proofing comments for what they are worth. Accept them, then
make your own opinion if it is important enough to address or not.

Parenting – When should you tell your kids santa isn’t real?

There come a time in a parents life when they have to tell their kids that Santa isn’t real (for those who never told their kids about Santa my apologies). But what is the perfect age.

After much research we have learnt that it is a sliding scale. Somewhere between 6 and 9 years seems to be the average. For us, I am sure it will be when the kids start asking for ridicules presents!!!

We have an old relative staying with us at the moment. She is in her 80s and is taking control over the house, the cleaning and the cooking. As she only speaks German, it does make for some communication problems.

On the weekend she was showing your editor pictures of her children and grand children. Your editor didn’t understand the word for great grand children which caused her to become angry!!! A part from that she is a great old lady and is not afraid to discipline our children (even the one year old).

For being in her 80s she is in pretty good shape. Your editor thinks it has something to do with drinking over a litre of wine a day and eating goulash that is full of olive oil – she must be well preserved.

Healthy: Decaf and Cholesterol

Before you reach for that cup of decaf thinking you are benefiting your body by not having full caffeine, ponder this.

A recent study showed that regular drinkers of decaf had higher levels of bad cholesterol, and were at more risk of heart disease than their counterparts who drank regular coffee.

Our recommendation: Minimise your consumption of normal coffee and decaf and replace them with green tea and other herbal teas that are high in antioxidants.

Goal Setting: 3 Goal Setting Necessities

Goal Setting: 3 Goal Setting Necessities

As we enter the festive season, we also enter the goal setting season. New years, rather than any other time, people set goals, most of which never get achieved!!! Today we wanted to share with you three goal setting necessities that will help you achieve your goals. The necessities focus on developing the goal itself.

1) Make your goal valuable: The goal has to be a goal that you deem to be valuable. Think about how the goal will benefit you and the wider society of friends and family around you. This is a crucial step as it will save you from following frivolous goals that won’t be of any benefit to you or those around you.

2) Is your goal a absolute necessity: This is a critical point. If your goal is essential you have a higher chance of achieving it. For example, lets say you have a large amount of debt that is severely impacting on your lifestyle. If this is the case then getting out of debt is an absolute necessity. Likewise if you have a health problem, then overcoming it becomes an absolute necessity.

3) A goal is a process not just a result: As long time goals-4-life suffers you will know that a goal does not sit by itself, there is a process behind it that helps you to achieve your goal. When considering your goals, write down the proposed process, and evaluate what steps are involved.

Healthy: Health benefits of Mangoes

Healthy: Health benefits of Mangoes

Mango’s don’t just taste great, they have many benefits to your health. Now that we are officially in summer (in the southern hemisphere at least – sorry to all the northern hemisphere people – which is probably the majority!!!)

For one, mangoes contain phenols which is a very powerful antioxidant and can reduce the risk of many types of cancer. Mangoes and also high in iron, and are a tasty way to get it!!

Some other benefits include, unclogging of skin, aiding in poor digestion and rich in vitamin A, E and Selenium which helps to protect against heart disease.

With all these benefits, try and eat a few each week.

Goal Setting: 9 goal setting tips

Goal Setting: 9 goal Setting tips

Today we want to share you with 9 very simple goal setting tips. We will then tell you what the most important one is.

Write out the goal (if you have been reading this ezine for any time you will not that is a standard)
Make it a specific and measurable.
Make sure you know why you want to achieve your goal and what the outcomes will be.
Make sure the goal is written in the positive and not the negative.
Break the goal down into smaller tasks, At goals-4-life we like to break our yearly goals down into monthly, weekly and daily goals and taks.
Make the goal realistic and somewhat achievable (make sure it isn’t to easy, but make sure you do at least have a chance at it)
Make sure that the goals is your’s not someone elses.
It the goal consistent with your moral and ethical values.
Make sure there are elements of the goal that you can control (eg don’t write, to win the lottery)

And what is the most important tip? Number 7. Many people set goals without asking themselves if it is what they really want – and doing the research to find out what it is they really want.

If you set a goal that is someone else’s and not personal to you, there is a fair chance that you will fail. So make your goals relevant to you!!!

Goal Setting: 9 goal setting tips

Goal Setting: 9 goal Setting tips

Today we want to share you with 9 very simple goal setting tips. We will then tell you what the most important one is.

1. Write out the goal (if you have been reading this ezine for any time you will not that is a standard)
2. Make it a specific and measurable.
3. Make sure you know why you want to achieve your goal and what the outcomes will be.
4. Make sure the goal is written in the positive and not the negative.
5. Break the goal down into smaller tasks, At goals-4-life we like to break our yearly goals down into monthly, weekly and daily goals and taks.
6. Make the goal realistic and somewhat achievable (make sure it isn’t to easy, but make sure you do at least have a chance at it)
7. Make sure that the goals is your’s not someone elses.
8. It the goal consistent with your moral and ethical values.

Insurance - Do you have enough

Insurance is something that we don't seem to think about to much, yet it is essential in our modern lives.

In a nutshell, the more insurance we have the more piece of mind we have. Insurance comes in many forms, car insurance, home insurance, life insurance and income protection insurance.

The first two are no brainers, if you have assets such as a car or a home you need to protect them - simple!!!. Life insurance and income insurance are a bit difference.

Have you ever sat down and wondered what would happen to your family if you weren't there? How much money would they need to survive - this is where life insurance and income insurance come into play.

Today, we just want you to think about insurance and to think about how it can provide piece of mind in your life.

Tomorrow is the day we pick up my wife’s long lost relative from the airport. If you recall in previous emails, we received a letter from a relative overseas who said she would be staying with us for six weeks.

We are looking forward to it, although your editor wishes that he knew a bit more German as she doesn’t speak English. Anyway it will be good to have an extra pair of hands around the house coming into Christmas.

She will be in for a shock with the weather though: She will become from zero degrees to 32 degrees.

Healthy: four pieces of fruit a day

Healthy: Have four pieces of fruit a day

One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to eat fruit everyday. Sadly, many of us seem to avoid it like the plague. While fruit does contain sugar, four pieces a day mixed in with a relatively healthy diet will have huge benefits on cleaning your system out.

The best fruit for you is offcourse organic. When fruit is grown in soil that is rich in nutrients, then there are no need for chemicals, as the plants are strong enough to ward off disease. In addition, there is also more nutrients in the fruit as well.

Fruit is full of vitamins and minerals as well as enzymes so is a fantastic option over other snack food.

Keep fruit in a basket at home, in the fridge, on your table, in your fridge at work – wherever you can keep it. Whenever you feel hungry try a piece of fruit first, if you are still hungry eat something after it.

After a few weeks, you will notice a difference in your energy levels and in your mood as well (for the better ofcourse!!!)

Your editor had his daughter’s kinder concert last night. The night became somewhat of a family affair with his wife bringing her brother and partner, and your editor bringing his mother and father (his mother had surgery earlier in the day so it was a fair effort that she came).

The concert was enjoyable, and the kids seem to have heaps of fun. There were snacks afterwards and the kids got to play on the play equipment. Ironically, we went to the same kinder and remembered doing the same play some 26 years ago. The irony was that the same kindergarten teacher who I had was there last night, and is my daughters teacher!!! We weren’t game to ask her age.

Your editor is also glad is dental appointment is over. He had what he thought was just going to be a filling, turn out to be root canal work – after spending almost two hours in the chair, he was definitely ready to go home. At least he got to watch the TV Show Scrubs and Daddy Day Care on the TV Screen in the roof above the dentist chair!!!

In today’s article we are providing tips for parents with new born’s – yes that fun, exciting and tiring time of your life!!!

Sleeping

Parents of new babies often feel exhausted, with never enough sleep. Hang in there! It does get better.

New babies don't have regular sleep patterns. Some sleep nearly all day, others for only short periods.

Try and grab some rest when baby is sleeping.

All babies are born with different sleep needs. A few babies will sleep through the night but many will wake regularly.

Feeding

Babies have different feeding patterns. They can want a feed from three to 10 times a day. Don't worry, just think about the total eaten over the day. A baby who is gaining weight is getting enough food.

Babies get the nutrition they need from milk until about six months old. If you are having difficulties breast feeding ask your child health centre nurse for assistance. If you are weaning your child, the child health centre nurse can help you find the right milk formula for your baby.

The Nursing Mother's Association will give advice on all feeding and weaning issues, whether the baby is breast or bottle fed. The Breast Feeding Helpline is (08) 9309 5393.
Solids can be given when baby appears interested, usually around six months. Start with one food only, such as rice cereal, mashed banana or pureed apple mixed with a little breast or bottle milk.

Don't have lumps in the food. Baby's gums don't grind food as well as teeth.

The Health Department has lots of great information about food.

Sometimes babies have allergies to foods. Watch out for reactions to different types of foods. If your baby has an allergic reaction, get expert advice from your doctor or local child health nurse.

Parenting: 10 reasons to be a parent

Parenting – Some positive reasons to be a parent

While we may often feel that we are banging our head against a brick wall as a parent, coming into the festive season we thought it would be good to look at the good aspects of being a parent.

You are the boss!!! Don’t you love saying those words
You get to be a kid again (I don’t know about you but I do enjoy seeing kids movies, chasing them around the playground and playing with toy cars!!!)
You get to make cakes with them (while we try and have a healthy diet I do have a soft spot for cakes)
You get to watch cartoons (particularly Simpsons) – do we have to say anymore!!!
You get to experience your child’s pride
Your children are a great excuse to leave functions that you don’t want to be at.
You get to learn how children see the world and experience some of this joy yourself.
You get to see your children sleeping (always a great moment)
You get to play with blocks
You get to read books you wouldn’t normally be able to read

Enjoy all the fun stuff that comes with being a parent!!!.

Self Help: Seeing Beauty in the Ordinary

Self Help: Seeing beauty in the ordinary

Our view of the world is determined by our thoughts. Two people can look at something in completely different ways. Take two government employees for instance who works in a employment centre. The first employee only sees the bad things in his job, the customer complaints, the excessive filing, the time spent on the telephone.

The second employee takes a different view. He sees the benefit that his job is serving for society. He is helping people out, and helping people get back on track.

Both of the employees are correct in their thinking, yet the second manages to see the beauty and changes he is making through his ordinary job, the first employee doesn’t.

We can choose how we see our work and our lives. We can see them as ordinary, mundane, and repetitive, or we can see the beauty in the ordinary, and what differences you are making.

Today we want you to write a list of all the benefits that you are making in your life and in your work. Once you have done this think of all the activities that you have done, and write what enjoyment or benefit is derived from them. Once you know the benefit that your actions are causing, you then have the ability to think of the activity in the positive. You may not fully enjoy the activity, but you will accept that you have to do it because of the positive outcomes.

If the activity doesn’t have any positive outcomes that you can think of, chances are there are no reasons for you to do it!!!

Healthy: Limiting Caffeine

Healthy: Limit that caffeine

Today, we would like to explore caffeine, and some of the effects by having to much of the brown stuff.

Caffeine can have many impacts on your body: trouble sleeping, nervousness, irritability, agitation, moody, depression and an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. If you have any of these systems you might be a caffeine addict.

Drinking coffee starts innocently enough. You have it with friends, you then start having it during the day, and before you know it you have built up to eight cups of coffee a day.

Caffeine is one of the most addictive drugs out there, the reason been is that we easily build up a tolerance to it. You may only need one cup of coffee in the morning for the first month, after that you will need two to get the same hit. If you don’t get it you will be lacking in concentration, and feel both mentally and physically tired.

Another problem with caffeine is that its in a highly adulterated state. These day’s caffeine contains additional chemicals that are residues from the production process.

To benefit your health you will need to do two things. First cut back on coffee (start by reducing a cup a day for a week, and then reduce another cup a day the next week (note: you will feel withdrawal systems such as moodiness, sore muscles and flu like symptoms). Secondly, only have organic and pure coffee (in moderate doses this does have some benefits for you. In addition, you can try and transfer to herbal teas and the like.

Healthy: Benefits of Eggs

Healthy: Benefits of Eggs

Eggs have received a lot of bad press lately. You may have heard in the media that they are high in cholesterol, which can cause diseases like heart attacks and strokes. We only have one word to say to that: Rubbish!!!

Firstly cholesterol is some forms isn’t that bad, in fact every cell in our body needs cholesterol. Cholesterol helps maintain vital hormones including oestrogen, cortisone and testosterone. It is our poor diet in other areas, and a stressful lifestyle that has caused cholesterol problems.

In Changing Habits, Changing Lives, Cyndi O’Meara provides us with the following quote:

“Eggs are like nuts – they’re nature’s vitamin pills. The protein eggs contain is 90 percent available to the body, compared to 65 percent for the protein of meats. And importantly, eggs contain essential nutrients, which actually help your liver to regulate blood cholesterol levels. They also contain a unique natural substance called lecithin, which acts as a powerful fat dissolving agent to protect the body against fat building up in the arteries”.

As you can see eggs have many benefits. But not all eggs are the same (and don’t worry we are not going to recommend eating duck eggs or turtle eggs!!!). There is a huge difference between organic free range eggs and cage eggs. The first are good for you; the second contain antibiotics and very little nutritional value.

Where possible buy organic eggs – even better, if you have a big garden get a few chooks. If your budget does not permit to buying organic eggs all the time, swap between organic and non organic.

Goal Setting: Be comfortable not knowing everything

Goal Setting: Be comfortable not knowing everything

When people goal set, they often feel it is necessary to break things down to the minutest detail. There seems to be a common misunderstanding that you have to know everything in full detail before you can start undertaking your goal.

While there is merit in analysing your goals and working out what you need to do; if you take this to far you will never get your goal off the ground. The most important step that you can take is to take action!!!

The fact is, we don’t know everything, and we never will know everything. Rather than fight this, we need to accept it and get on with our lives. Things do happen, they can appear bad at first but may end up been good; or they can appear good and easy and may end up been bad. We never know. But we can take action to find out.

For the majority of our lives we have been designed to learn through failure. We didn’t learn to walk through knowing everything about walking; we learnt through trail and error, and getting out there and having a go.

Trial and error is the easiest way to achieve out goals. So get out there and take action. If you don’t take action you could potentially think yourself out of your goal, or worse still, never get started.

Your editor and his wife went up to the top of Mount Dandenong, a Mountain on the outskirts of Melbourne, on the weekend. There is an observation deck, and a restaurant on the top called sky high.

Being a warm and clear day the place was bustling with people like us, hoping to enjoy the sunlight and the view.

The kids had a great time. There is a hedge maze and also other entertainment and gardens to run around.

As we were walking up the stairs we noticed a bus load of tourists. After watching them for a minute or two, we noted something funny. Not only were they video taping the view, they actually had people video taping the people who were video taping the view. It was like a second degree of separation from nature!!!

Your editor pictured them going back home and showing the video tape of the view and saying, see I was really there, this is me video taping the view!!!

We have made a vow never to travel with a video camera.

Parenting - Beyond saying no

Parenting – Beyond saying no

If you have read any parenting literature lately, you will no doubt be aware that using the word “no” to your children is essential in your arsenal of skills to dealing with behavioural problems.

The first thing we have to accept that saying “no” is not going to instantly resolve the problem. There are likely to be tantrums and outbursts and your child tries to accept – or not accept your answer. How we deal with this, is just as important as using the world no.

Imagine how a child would be in adult life if they had always somehow managed to get around a “no” with bad behaviour. In the words of Richard Branson… “they will either be in jail or a millionaire!!!” You can take your pick as to which is the most likely!!!

When your child reacts to you saying no, deal with them in a calm and consistent manner. You should not feel the need to have to justify your decision further. As a parent you have spoken and your child needs to accept the decision. You should offcourse give reasons why you made the decision early on. The last thing you want your child to be is a “yes” person. What you are trying to teach your child is to follow rules when there are sound reasons.

If they keep acting up, say that a form of punishment will apply (eg they will have to go to their room). Enforce this punishment if they keep acting up.

Overtime, your child will learn to accept your decision and the process should become easier.

Romance: How to keep it in your relationship

Romance: How to keep it in your relationship

If you are a long time suffer of our blog, or our daily ezine at goals-4-life.com, you will know that our beat is goal setting, health and parenting. One thing that is essential to at least two of these aspects (health and parenting) is a solid, genuine relationship, where you feel you have the support of your partner, can tell them anything, and are romantic with each other.

Today, we qould like to explore romance, and how important it is for you and your relationship.

  • Romantic gestures trigger the memories of falling in love (you remember those euphoria type feelings? These are the ones we are talking about!!!)
  • Romance is the show and tell of true love. While women generally need romance more than men (we still need it to!!!), your partner going to an effort to be romantic to you, lets you know that they love you and care for you.
  • Behaviour can affect feelings.

Cheers

Self Improvement - Learning from family and friends

Self Improvement: Learning from family and friends
Learning, or been corrected by, family and friends is often one of the hardest things to except. We all like to think that we are in the right, and often get upset or hostile if someone tells us that we are wrong.

However, learning from family and friends is a great way to improve yourself. For one, these are the people that are close to you. In most cases they will only be telling you something if they think it will benefit you, not to hurt you.

They are the people who also know you best. They know your good qualities as well as your bad, and are in a good position to provide advice.

Next time someone close to you offers advice, don’t take it to heart. Thank them for caring and then actively think about how beneficial it can be for you to think of things from a different perspective.

Health: What exercise should you do

What exercise should you do

If you watch the news or read main stream exercise reports, you would that aerobic, slow placed exercising is the best for you. Hear at goal setting, health and parenting we take a different view – as we seem to on many things.

Aerobic exercise makes your body fit for long distance running and slow activities. This is not bad in itself, however it does compromise your heart. Your heart becomes smaller, and while more efficient at running longer distances, it is less capably of beating faster when you need it to – eg in times of stress.

To build reserve into your heart, you need to undertake short term repetition work. The perfect exercise is hill sprints. Start with a set of 8-10 hill sprints 2 – 3 times a week. Start out at 50% and work your way up to 90% by the last repetition. This will not only build muscle and make you burn fat, but it will also improve your hearts health.

As always, please consult a Doctor!!!

In other news…

Your editor has not written for a few days as he has been off sick.

Being sick really makes you appreciate how important health is. If it is not one of your top goals, you should seriously think about making it one.

Cheers

Health: What supplements should you take

What supplements should you take

Today, I would like to focus on types of nutritional supplements you should be taking. If you recall, in yesterday’s article we looked at whether supplements were required or not required. To briefly summaries: Given the fast pace world we live in, and current agricultural practices, we are not getting the nutrition we require from foods, and thus supplements – in one form or another – are beneficial to help maintain your health and to minimise disease.

If we were to believe the news or other supplement advertising, you would be buying 20 or 30 different supplements a day. However, there is no need for you to do that. At most there should be four things you should be taking.

These are:

Coenzyme Q 10
Multi Vitamin
Fish Oil (or any Omega 3,6,9 balances)
Vitamin C

Lets go through these in a bit of detail

CoQ10: is a fat-soluble vitamin-like substance present in every cell of the body and serves as a coenzyme for several of the key enzymatic steps in the production of energy within the cell. It also functions as an antioxidant which is important in its clinical effects. It is naturally present in small amounts in a wide variety of foods but is particularly high in organ meats such as heart, liver and kidney, as well as beef, soy oil, sardines, mackerel, and peanuts. To put dietary CoQ10 intake into perspective, one pound of sardines, two pounds of beef, or two and one half pounds of peanuts, provide 30 mg of CoQ10. CoQ10 is also synthesized in all tissues and in healthy individuals normal levels are maintained both by CoQ10 intake and by the body's synthesis of CoQ10. It has no known toxicity or side effects.
Most people are defincient in CoQ10 because of our diet. The benefits of CoQ10 have been seen in heart patients, cancer patients and other diseases.

Recommended dose is between 50mg and 100mg a day.

Multi-Vitamim: One of the most commonly asked questions is "Why should I take a multivitamin supplement?" It is estimated that seven out of ten Americans take dietary supplements. Why? Because vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that the human body alone can not manufacture in sufficient quantities to provide the foundation for all normal biological functions. Vitamins and minerals are required for normal metabolism, growth, and general well being. A single deficiency of any vitamin or mineral can endanger the whole body. Many people believe they are eating the 'right' foods, and getting the proper amount of essential nutrients in this way. And, of course, eating a balanced diet is one way to obtain the vitamins and minerals you need.
The problem is, few of us get a truly balanced diet. According to one U.S. Government survey of 21,000 people, not a single person obtained 100 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for each of ten basic nutrients. Processing, storing, or even cooking can reduce the vitamin content of foods. Foods can also be adversely affected by chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and soil conditions. Nutrients are also adversely affected by heavy smoking, alcohol consumption, and numerous health conditions including obesity and chronic illness.
Your multivitamin should contain a full range of vitamins and minerals to meet essential nutritional needs. For example, the average diet frequently provides less than the recommended daily allowance for zinc. A low-dose supplement (15 mg per day) can fill in dietary gaps. Statistics show that over 65% of American diets are deficient in Zinc. Zinc is considered the most important mineral for proper immune system function. Magnesium is also an important element available in multivitamin form, and is also in a majority of American diets. A lack of this essential mineral can lead to fatigue, abnormal heart rhythms, muscle weakness and spasm, depression, loss of appetite, listlessness, and potassium depletion.

Dosage: Daily

Fish Oil: There is a lot of controversy surrounding fish oil, particularly in contaminated fish. If you are eating organic Atlantic salmon three times a week then you probably don’t need it, if you aren’t then you should consider it.

Our bodies need essential fatty acids, and in fact the majority of our brain is made up of them, yet our diet generally does not include them. There should be a balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6, some experts recommend two times more Omega 3 than Omega 6.

By taking fish oil, you will be looking after your brain, your cardiovascular system and also your joints, which the oils keep lubricated.

Dosage: Minimum 3 tablets a day.

Vitamin C: Is a powerful antioxidant. A recent study from Oregon University has also shown that Vitaman C, breaks down fat metabolism and can also fight cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Dosage: Whatever your countries recommended dosage is!!! There is wide debate on the amount required, and unless we plan to do a thesis here, have no chance to cover it.

So that’s it…take these supplements, eat healthily and exercise regularly, and you will look and feel a million dollars.

Goal Setting: Problem solving

Goal Setting – Problem Solving

“the problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem”.
Theodore Rubin

With goal setting, as with everything, problems do arise. So what do you do when you encounter a problem.? Firstly, remember that the best time to solve a problem is always in its early stages. Also remember that, when solving problems you may not always be able to find a perfect answer. So what do you do, good problem solving requires mental effort, clear thinking, courage, patience, self-discipline, skill and experience.

Today we will highlight some of the traps people fall into, so you can avoid them.

Anchoring: This is giving to much weight to what we first see or hear about a problem. Learn more about the problem and you may find that it is not that big a deal and that the first information you got was not accurate.

Sticking with the status quo: It often seems easier to stick with things the way they are. Sometimes to solve a problem you need to think outside the box and to do things differently. And remember to take action. Not taking action does feel safer, but you want achieve results.

Not cutting your losses: Sometimes you can make a mistake and stick with it and keep losing. Look at the problem from a strategic level and see if this has happened to you.

Seeing what you want to see: We all fall for this…making a problem look like it is good. The best way to solve it is to get a second opinion!!!

Benefits of Blueberries (courtesy of essortment.com)

Are you eating blueberries? If not you might want to reconsider this wonderful food that is so good for you.
The dye that is released from the blueberries' skin may well be the most valuable nutrient the fruit has to offer. The pigments in blueberries and also in red crops such as cherries, plums, and red cabbage are powerful antioxidants. They have been determined to be a much-heralded chemical warrior against heart disease and also cancer. Blueberries actually have the highest antioxidant capacity because of their large anthocyanin concentration.

Antioxidants in our food can save us from virtually everything. Most of our health misfortunes are due to the perversity of oxygen. Our cells are perpetually besieged by toxic forms of oxygen which have been proved to have fierce destructive powers. So far scientists have linked destructive oxygen reactions to at least sixty different chronic diseases, as well as to aging itself. Oxygen free radicals can attack DNA, the genetic material of cells, causing them to mutate, which is a step on the path to cancer.
One of the great revelations of the last few years, according to a massive and growing body of evidence, is that you may be able to eat your way out of this dilemma insofar as the boundaries of human life span and genetics allow. You can supply your cells with antioxidant food compounds that strike down, intercept and extinguish rampaging oxygen molecules and even repair some of their damage.
Blueberries are not only a powerful antioxidant but also have been proved to preserve vision. Blueberry extract, high in compounds called anthocyanosides, has been found in clinical studies to slow down visual loss.
A recent study was done in a Boston laboratory by putting one group of young rats on a blueberry-rich diet and another on regular chow. Then the scientist exposed both groups to 48 hours of concentrated oxygen, stirring up in two days the amount of free radical damage that normally takes 20 rat months, or 75 humans to accumulate. Brain cells in the chow group became less responsive to neurotransmitters associated with short-term memory. The brains of the blueberry stuffed rats did not change. He also found that the fruit prevented the kind of short-term memory loss that comes with aging. Blueberries actually stave off declines in brain cell's ability to send messages to one another.
There are types of blueberries and the most potent ones are Bilberries, as they have the virtuous pigment in their flesh as well as in their skin, thus they pack a greater anthocyanin wallop. Wild blueberries are also high on the list because they contain less water. All blueberries are very rich with antioxidants. If you don't have them available in your area fresh then purchase the frozen blueberries in the bag in your grocery.
Now if you add blueberries to your pancake mix or just put them on top of a stack of pancakes remember if you smoother them with the saturated fat of butter or a sugary syrup you'll not have a healthy breakfast. Try blending frozen blueberries into your shakes in your blender.

Parenting

In today’s article we will look out some key tips for how to develop children of character.

Make parenting first: As hard as it is sometimes, we have to put parenting first, yes even over the new plasma if required!!! Make parenting and spending time with your kids one of your major goals, and you will have much more involvement in shaping their developments.

Spending times: It can be difficult to find time for your children with work and social commitments, but it is definitely an investment that pays off. Try and find at least an hour a day of “quality” time with them.

Lead by example: Yes…they do copy us, as far as possible (and we all go off the band wagon from time to time) display behaviours you would like to see in them.

Make a big deal of the family meal: Try to sit down for dinner at the table together, with no television on. The conversation at the table will be one of the most valuable you will have.

Your editor had dinner with his wife at the Melba Brassiere on Melbourne’s South Bank last night. It was the first dinner in about 3 months that your editor has had without the kids. The range of food is superb; it is a buffet with roasts, sea food, Indian and a noodle bar. There is also a fantastic array of deserts. With stunning views over the Yarra, and good food it made for a great evening.

After the meal, on the way back to the car, your editor suggested that they go to the top of the Eureka Tower – Melbourne’s newest and tallest building. The building has a look out tower, with a platform, that once entered is mechanically moved so that it juts out of the building. The frosted glass on the floor then clears to reveal the ground some 300m below. It makes you feel like you are standing in mid air.

Your editor is an ex rock climber and loves heights, his wife, not quite so keen. With sweaty palms she walked towards the building.
‘Lets not do this…I feel to nervous’ she said
‘come on, it will be fun’ countered your editor
‘enjoy the view by yourself because I’m not going…lets go shopping at 24 hour k-mart instead’.
‘oh goodie’ your editor replied!!!

P.S. Sorry we did not write an article on Friday…we unfortunately had a funeral to attend.

Parenting: How to correct a teenager?

Time Management: The key to success is what you don’t do

Time is a funny thing, people always say that they never have enough time. However, each day we all have the same amount of time – we just choose to use it differently. A person in a hospital bed can achieve more than people in an office job if they focus on what they want done.

A old time management rule states that “Success depends on what you neglect”. There is a lot of wisdom in those words. If you want to achieve a goal, simply focus on what is important and neglect the unimportant. This in itself, can have problems if your goals aren’t well defined. Luckily, Goals-4-Life readers won’t have that problem because they have well planned out long term goals, which consider wealth, healthy, family and community/spirituality!!!

So today we would like you to focus on what is important and will help you achieve your goals. Each morning prepare a daily to-do-list and focus on what tasks you would like to accomplish. Highlight the most important task, even if they are the hardest, and do those first. If you don’t finish your whole list, this is no huge problem – you have already completed the main tasks that you needed to undertake to achieve your goals. Anything else is just a bonus.

In addition to the above, we would also like to highlight the 80/20 rule. It take 80 percent of the time to do the last 20 percent of the work. When looking at detail, and how long it will take, ascertain how important it is for your goals and for your life. If it isn’t important, maybe your time could be better spent doing something else.

Healthy: Water are you getting enough?

Many people focus on eating the right foods and doing the right exercise programs; however they fall short when it comes to drinking enough water.

Lets look at some of the facts to start. Seventy to eighty percent of your body is made up of water. If you weigh 60kg, then 45kg will be water. Imagine how you would look without water!!!

So if your body is made up of 70 to 80 percent water, how much water do you need to drink? Studies have shown that a figure anywhere between 2 litres a day and 3 litres a day is required (the difference is based on climate, exercise during the day, and different dietary needs).

Sound like a lot. Fortunately, you do need to drink the 2-3 litres by itself. Many fruits, vegetables even whole grains contain water. So you are able to supplement some of your water with this. Eg Watermelon is 98 percent water – if you eat 200 grams you have had 196 mills of water.

However, there is also a down side. Drinks such as coffee and coke, actually have a directic effect, which means that your body can’t retain the water. So…these drinks don’t can’t.

There are many benefits to drinking water, elimination of disease etc (we will touch on these in another issue), so try your best to drink between 2-3 litres a day.

Parenting: How to give constructive criticism to a teenager

Criticism is hard to give at the best of times, to a teenager it can be out right dangerous!!! In today’s article we look at some simple ways to make criticism easier.

First, while teenagers are getting close to adulthood, there are still times where boundaries need to be discussed, and certain behaviours need to be corrected. Lets look at how this should be done.

Pick an appropriate time, Make sure it is not in front of their friends, or when they are stressed with work/homework.
Be specific about the exact behaviour – point out the one thing you would like to discuss.
Focus on the behaviour, not on them personally.
Mention positives (I am sure there are 100 positive things that they do)
Stay in the present – if you dig up previous issues the conversation will quickly deteriorate.
Understand why you feel the way you do.
Invite an explanation (there might be a good one!!!).
Stay in control – don’t lose it.
Separate facts from feelings
Know when to stop – if you keep pushing you will get resistance
Offer forgiveness and options.

There you have it. While not fool proof, the next time you need to have “one of those chats” it might just be a little more pleasant, and most importantly, you might get a more positive outcome.

It was beautiful weather in Melbourne on the weekend. On Sunday it got up to 33 degrees. Your editor went to his nephews birthday party, and then spent a lot of time with the kids in the pool.

Your editors three your old son is learning to swim, and spends most of his time in the pool, on a little blow up boat. Your editor decided it would be fun to once again jump on the boat with him. Rather than sitting flat down your editor stayed on his knees. This meant that the blow up went under the water where is knees were, and must to his son’s distaste, the boat started taking on water.

He screamed. His mum ran out to see what was wrong. She found him neck height in water with her husband behind him, on a now submerged boat, trying to paddle to the side!!! She grabbed the paddle and brought them to the side of the pool.

‘I never want you to go in the boat with me again Daddy’ Joel said as he dried himself by the pool.

‘It’s a deal’.

Cheers

Parenting: five things to tell the kids

Goal Setting – Don’t let worrying get in the way of your goals
Health: Chocolate – how to limit yourself
Parenting: 5 Things to tell the kids

Goal Setting – Don’t let worrying get in the way of your goals

The French Philosopher Montaigne wrote, “Me life has been full of terrible misfortunes, most of which never happened”

Worrying is often listed as a key reason why people don’t achieve their goals. People worry about what will happen if they don’t achieve, and also what will happen if they do!!! (the fear of success).

Today we look at three things you should do to keep your worrying at bay.

What is the worst that can happen
Accept the worst and move on
Try and make the “worst” better

The fact is, things can happen, and whether you like it or not, life isn’t always fair. But this should not stop you from achieving your goals. Always consider the worst thing that can happen. Ask yourself the question, can you live with it? If not, don’t do the task. If so, go ahead and do it. Always remember, that even when the worst happens, you can use it to your advantage and build on it.

Instead of thinking about all the negative things, and fretting, think about them once and accept them. Once you have accepted, move on and fill your mind with tranquil thoughts, and positive thoughts. If you don’t do this, the negative thoughts will begin to take over, and will consume you and your goals.

At the end of the day, if you think positively, have faith in a God, and trust in the tasks you are doing, you will be better off on all levels.

Healthy: Chocolate – how to limit yourself

Ok…so most of us love chocolate. Infact, about 70% of the population would call themselves chocoholics – at least it is better than some additions!!!

While there are several benefits from chocolate – particularly dark chocolate which has some cardiovascular benefits, the benefits are only derived if you eat a small amount, say three standard pieces a week. Anything more than that and you off set the benefits from spiking your insulin levels with the amount of sugar you are absorbing.

In today’s article we will look at a tried and tested way for you to minimise your chocolate consumption. Lets get into it.

Step 1: Buy only the best chocolate
There are two reasons for this. One, high quality chocolate is better for you as it has less chemicals, and two. Once you taste it, you won’t go back to normal chocolate!!! Meaning you have to either keep eating high quality chocolate or not eat any at all.

Step 2: Buy chocolate individually wrapped and one at a time.

If you buy chocolate in bulk, chances are you will eat it in bulk. If you buy chocolate individually wrapped, and one at a time, you are minimising your risk of over eating. To add a bit of fun, make sure that you only buy your chocolate from the one store – chances are if you eat it a lot you will get a bit embarrassed by going back to the same store five times in one night!!!

Step 3: Appreciate the chocolate

If you have seen the movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” you will know what we are talking about. Smell the chocolate, let it melt in your mouth, as apposed to wolfing it down as fast as you can.

Step 4: Stick to the above for 12 weeks

If you can stick to the above for 12 weeks you will have changed your tastebuds, and have slowly lowered your chocolate consumption. If you have made it through 12 weeks you have changed your habit.

Parenting: 5 Things to Tell the Kids

We have a long article today detailing how to tell the kids that you are getting divorced. The article has been written by our friend Rosalind Sedacca, from www.childcentereddivorce.com who is an occasional contributor to Goals-4-Life. I am sure you will all enjoy the article!!!

5 Must-Tell Messages
to Prepare the Kids for Your Divorce
By Rosalind Sedacca, CCT

One of the most difficult conversations any parent will ever have is telling their children about their pending divorce. I know first-hand because many years ago I went through the experience. I fought and faced the overwhelming emotions. The deep gut-wrenching fear. The continuous anxiety. The incredible guilt. And the oppressive weight of shame.

My son, after all, was innocent. A sweet, gentle soul who loved his father and mother dearly. He certainly did not deserve this.

I struggled with the anxiety for weeks in advance. When should I tell him? How should I tell him? Should we tell him together? And most frightening of all, WHAT SHOULD WE SAY?

How do you explain to a child that the life he has known, the comfort he has felt in his family setting, is about to be disrupted – changed – forever?

How do you explain to a child that none of this is his fault?

How do you reassure him that life will go on, that he will be safe, cared for and loved, even after his parents divorce?

And, even more intimidating, how do you prepare him for all the unknowns looming ahead when you’re not sure yourself how it will all turn out?

I needed a plan. A strategy. A way of conveying all that I wanted to say to him at a level of understanding that he could grasp.

Thankfully I found that plan. I came up with a storybook that told my son, in words and pictures, the story of how his father and I met, married and started a family. It explained problems we encountered that we could not readily fix, and the decision we ultimately made to get a divorce.

In my new ebook, How Do I Tell the Kids about the Divorce?, I provide a fill-in-the-blanks template that other parents can use to prepare their children for the many changes ahead. The interactive format allows parents to customize the story to fit their family dynamics. It also focuses on five key messages that are essential for every child to hear, understand and absorb. By sharing and repeating these five points to your children in the weeks and months following the initial conversation, you will enable them to better handle, accept and even embrace the challenges and changes they will soon be facing. Here are the five must-tell messages for your children:

1) This is not your fault.

Mom and Dad have been having problems. We don’t agree about certain key issues and that creates conflict. Even when some of the issues are about you, that does not mean you are to blame. You are an innocent child who we both love and cherish. It is not your fault that Mom and Dad disagree about your bedtime, where to go on vacation, how to help you with your homework or whether you should play soccer. We are not fighting about YOU. We are disagreeing with each other about issues that concern you and our family. But you are not in any way at fault.

2) Mom and Dad will always be your parents.

No matter what changes occur over the weeks, months and years ahead, one thing is for certain. Mon and Dad will still always be your parents. No one else will ever be your real Mom. No one else will ever be your real Dad. We will both always love you and be there for you, no matter where we live or how things should change.

3) This is about change, not about blame.

Divorce is a scary word. But all it really means is that our family will be experiencing some changes. Change is okay. Everything in life keeps changing. You grow bigger, taller, stronger and smarter every year. The seasons change every year. Clothing styles and hair styles keep changing. You change grades and schools as you grow older. Change means things will be different in some ways. It doesn’t mean things will be bad. Change can be fun, exciting and new. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to changes, like beginning a new grade with a new teacher. Other times change gives us a chance to do things in a new and better way, like trying a new sport or a hobby you grow to love.

The change in our family is not about who’s right or wrong or who’s good or bad. Mom and Dad both tried their best to resolve our problems. The old way didn’t work for us and now we will be trying a new way for our family to live so there’s more peace, calmness and happiness for us all. Instead of worrying about who’s to blame, let’s think about how we can see the changes ahead as a new adventure -- a brand new chapter in our lives. Who knows what lies ahead?

4) Things will work out okay.

We’re often frightened when we begin new things and face new challenges. Like the first time you learned to ride a bicycle, the first day of school or day camp, your first trip to the dentist. Things always have a way of working out, even when we’re scared that they won’t. Divorce will be the same way. Things will be new and different for a while.

We’ll have new ways of doing some things … some new responsibilities ... some differences in our schedules. But life will go on. We will get used to the differences. Some of them we may even prefer. And after a while, we’ll look back and say, life is different than it used to be, but it’s all okay. I’m okay, our family is okay and, most important of all, we still love each other. That is a lot better than okay. It’s great!

5) Mom and Dad will always love you.

No matter what happens, no matter what changes occur, one thing is for certain. Mom and Dad will always love you. That will never change. Regardless of where we live, what we do and how old you get. You can count on that. And don’t ever forget it.

These core messages are the foundation your children will depend on when they are feeling frightened, sad or insecure. Repeat them often in your own words and your own style. You’ll be rewarded in countless ways as you and your children encounter and overcome the challenges of life after divorce.

Your editor and his wife spent the weekend seeing friends, swimming and most importantly, searching the house up and down for some lost money.

We think the culprit is our one year old daughter, who has a habit of placing car keys in bins, and hiding bills or letters.

We made the mistake of leaving a money bag full of notes on our kitchen table which our daughter can now reach. Oh well, at least we have now learnt that we should keeps things out of reach!!!

In other news, our four year old went to her first dance rehearsal for the end of year concert. If you recall from previous ezines, we think that the instructor takes it way to seriously.

The rehearsal went for four hours, of which most children only danced for about 2 minutes. My wife reported back that there seemed to be some annoyed parents.

One mother stated
‘I am not paying over $1000 a year for my child to learn one dance, what’s with the arm things anyway…I could teach her that at home!!! Its like they only learn one dance so they look good at the concert, but don’t learning anything of real value’

Another mother replied
‘But if they do the same thing each week then it will be memorised, and they can build skills on that’.

My wife made the wise move of staying out of the argument. We will see how much value the rehearsals have been in a few weeks. At the very least my daughter has learnt discipline and how hard you have to work if you want to be good at something.

That said, I hope this is the ballet instructor’s goal, and that they are not just trying to feed their own ego’s.

I will take any readers feedback on this: enquiry@goals-4-life.com

Cheers
